Books Worth Reading
Lately I've been reflecting on the books that have really impacted my life in one way or another. One of the first to come to mind was A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
  | The Christian picture of sacrifice and courage in this wonderfully written book is incredibly powerful. You might think a novel set during the French Revolution would be depressing. Some might categorize Dicken's tome that way. However, the image of redemption is the one that grasped me. Sidney Carton is a real bum--lazy, hard-drinking, pathetic loser--when the novel begins. However, through a series of events he transforms to a person willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others. Isn't that what Christianity is all about--the transforming power of Jesus Christ. Yes, Dicken's A Tale of Two Cities will remain with you long after you turn the last page. |
